Description

We live in a privileged society. Technological, scientific and nutritional development in the West is enormous. However, our children are not the healthiest and certainly not the happiest. Thousands of children have a daily schedule of activities that exceeds the legal working day in any European country. Moreover, the consequences of this model are worrying. We are surrounded by an epidemic of disorders and diseases in childhood: behavioral, such as attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity, chronic fatigue, depression, stress or anxiety at increasingly younger ages; also nutritional, such as anorexia, bulimia and overweight. Most of them will have repercussions in the future. These diseases are exclusive to industrialized countries. There must be something wrong with us. We have everything and we give everything to children, but above all material things. We are depriving them of the presence of their parents, of respect for their processes, of free play, of leisure time without adult direction, of relating to their peers without external rules. We judge and compare them permanently. We do not let them be. Each culture has its own model of upbringing, and this is no coincidence. The way we treat children has a social function. It is designed to produce one type of citizen, and not another. Only by protecting motherhood and childhood will we have any chance of bringing about change in our society. To achieve a better future it is necessary not to forget our history, both general and individual. Love and self-deception are incompatible, because from the denial of suffering comes hatred displaced towards the innocent. Because love requires truth.
