Mª José Garrido

D. in Anthropology, specializing in Ethnopediatrics and Anthropology of Motherhood and Childhood. Her doctoral thesis was the first on Ethnopediatrics in Spanish. She also has a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a degree in Prehistory and Archaeology. She is part of the research group GESSA (Applied Social Studies) at the University of Extremadura, where she researches the relationship between society, childhood and health. She has published scientific articles on these topics in international anthropology journals and has given lectures and courses on maternal and child health in both university and health care settings. She collaborates, as an external expert, in the evaluation of projects for the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research of Chile. She is the mother of Manuel and Irene, from whom she has learned more than from all of the above.
